New version available for Beta Testing

UPDATE: the beta is no longer available; this version has been installed on the main voo2do.com.

Good news! A new version of voo2do is now available for testing. I’d like a few people to try it out and identify any severe problems before I switch to the new version completely. It’s a chance to help the voo2do community, get a sneak peek at new features, and offer suggestions and bug reports that I’ll try to address promptly.

The beta is on a new server and is using a copy of the voo2do database from the morning of Mar 25, 2006. Modifications you make on the beta server affect the beta server database only. They will not affect your data on voo2do.com and will be deleted in a few days when the beta period ends. After that, I’ll upgrade all voo2do users and data to the new version.

To play with the beta version, please:

  1. Read the line in bold above. If you don’t understand what it means, don’t use the beta. Your data on http://voo2do.com will not be affected.
  2. Read about the new features.
  3. Go to http://beta.voo2do.com.
  4. Test lots of things. Discover bugs and confusing designs.
  5. Tell me about them.

Enjoy!

    Hi,

great news! :-) Keep up the good work!

First bug: if I click on help and then in “Sharing and collaboration”, browser goes to http://beta.voo2do.com/help/sharing but I get a ‘beautiful’
    “500 Internal Server Error” :-O

    Hey Shimon,

Two more bugs…. Both in collaboration.

    1. The password for the public task list doesn’t seem to work (I tried test123, and test). Removing the password works flawlessly.

    2. Names of “collaborators” do not appear in the deadlines pages. (Seems to work fine in the Tasks & projects tab) Also, in the collaboration tab, when I click on the collaborators name - 500 internal server error (link http://beta.voo2do.com/collaborator?collab_id=9 & 12)

    Juanan and Robin:

Thanks for the reports. I believe the problems you’ve reported have now been fixed on http://beta.voo2do.com .

The internal server errors were a misconfiguration that I’ve now sorted out.

The password authentication problem for public tasks lists had to do with the order your browser presented form input to my server. I don’t know why it was breaking in the way it was, but I’ve found a workaround that should keep this fixed. Let me know if you see it again.

Robin, the problem you pointed out with collaborator names not showing up in the deadlines page also happened on the history page. I’ve fixed both.

Thank so much for the testing work!

    You rock!

Nice new features. Go go beta testing! All smooth so far.

    Me again,

These are suggestions more than bugs.

First off, the new dashboard is cool. I never used it before but the new complete/delete functionality rocks. The only suggestion I have with it is that the total (ie. 37.5h remaining in 4 tasks) It doesn’t get updated after you delete/complete a task…. Of course if you refresh the page it is ok.

Also - would be cool if you could provide the same dropdown functionality in the ‘person’ column that you do with the project column.

Anyhow - that is it for now. I’m officially a voo2do junkie. I tried to stop using it because I needed to keep track of tasks I assigned my staff - but I couldn’t do it (we were trying to put it in excel…. Yuk). The ‘collaborators’ functionality is exactly what I need - so I look forward to the full implementation!

    Robin,

Thanks for the second round of suggestions. I am aware of the problem with the links on the dashboard not getting updated, and am thoroughly impressed you noticed it. :) I hope to fix that soon. Autocompletion for the person field is also planned. I may delay these until after releasing the code onto regular voo2do.com, since they are rather small changes.

    Thank you again!

Just had a quick look, seems fine.

If I could ask for more, I’d say I’d like to reorder notes now that I can edit them (since I don’t have subtasks, I’m using notes as subtasks, and ordering would provide some mean to organize priorities) :-)

  8. Robin Says:

Any planned date for the migration to the new code?
