New features: date format, better GTD support, collaboration support

Today marks the release of several oft-requested new features for voo2do. If you’ve seen the beta, you’ve probably helped me debug these. Announcing:

  • Renamed views to contexts, and added ability to assign a task into a specific context.
  • Inactivation (and reactivation) of contexts and projects makes it easier to get old stuff out of the way.
  • Support for D/M/Y and Y-M-D date formats, in addition to M/D/Y.
  • Ability to edit (not just add and delete) notes.
  • Task-specific menu (click on ).
  • Notes button now opens in a simulated window rather than an actual new browser window, making this interface operation faster on many browsers.
  • Initial collaboration support, including ability to assign tasks to a person and to publish tasks for public viewing.
  • New Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

    Will u consider using Textile or Markdown as the note text formatting?

    e.g. use following for unordered list:

    * item1
    * item2

    hi,

    it’s possible asign tasks for two or more persons?

    something like “person1 ,person2″

    cheers

    Harold,

    Nope, a task can only be assigned to a single person at once. Could you explain a bit about why you’d want to assign a task to multiple people? It seems that if two separate people are working on something, they should be working on different parts, so you could just use two different tasks. Would that not work well for you?

    My wife/business partner are starting to learn our way around voo2do (it’s our first day using it). Our navigation speed is ramping up nicely as we learn.

    One question about collaborators …. can a collaborator be assigned to a task that already exists? So far, it seems like I can only see how to assign a person at the time the task is created.

    Thanks again for voo2do. Great tool and concept.

    Brian: you should be able to assign a task to a collaborator anywhere you’re viewing or editing tasks, except for the dashboard tab. Unfortunately display and editing of the collaborator field is missing from the dashboard, and I hope to rectify that in future versions.

    I’ve searched far and wide in the blog and the help section, but I’m stumped - are notes printable? Ideally I’d like to either print notes individually and/or all for a certain task and/or a certain project. Thanks! I came across this website the other day and am in love with it already, it does everything I was looking for.

    Thanks much. After poking around a bit, I discovered the “customize” button next to the “context” drop down menu in the Projects tab . Once in there, I saw that I had not previously checked the “group work” box when originally creating my contexts. After correcting that, the sought after “person” field was then available on the task lists, so all is now well. Thanks again.

    By the way, I notice that when working in the “task” tab, whenever I save, it unsorts the list, so each time the save is complete, I have to resort it back again. If there was one thing that would save me the most time while working, it would be to have the program retain whatever the sort sequence was at the time of the save. That would be huge. Thx.

    I had used voo2do before and came back recently…liked the colloboration features.

    One thing though, when the contexts are published, the notes of the tasks are missing in the published list of tasks. It will be great to have notes shared through the published URL. Please let me know if there is any existing way of sharing notes along with the tasks.
